    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1How do I join the Escondido Mounted Posse?
On this page, above, download the Membership Application which can be faxed or emailed to the contact information provided on the application. Here you can also submit any questions you may have via online form, email or telephone.
2Do I need to have my own horse or will the Posse provide one for me?
All Posse members ride their own horses.
3How will I know if I can ride well enough to participate in a parade?
There are at least 8 sensitization and parade trainings scheduled throughout the year for you and your horse to practice and be evaluated before participating in any parades.
4How will I know if my horse can handle a parade?
You and your horse will be evaluated during the sensitization and training session before participating in any parades.
5How do we learn about formations?
Formations will be taught during the sensitization and training sessions.
6How long does it take to become a member?
Applicants must first attend at least one monthly Posse meeting, one training session and one parade before being voted in at the next scheduled Posse meeting as a probationary member. Probationary status lasts at least 6 months, where at the end of this time the Board will vote on complete membership. You will be able to participate in parades during the probationary period.
7Do we have to live in Escondido?
Escondido Mounted Posse membership is made up of men and women and their horses from all parts of San Diego County. It is not necessary for you to live in or near Escondido.
8Is it a requirement to have a truck and trailer?
Although it makes it much easier to schedule, plan and coordinate transporting your horse to the various parade and training events, it is not a requirement to have a truck and trailer for membership. If you do not have a truck and trailer, ask neighboring horse enthusiasts with trailering capabilities if they would be interested to join the Posse with you, or ask members of the Posse if they live close enough to share a ride.
9Will I need to purchase the uniform or is it provided by the Posse?
Some items of the uniform are provided by the Posse and some, such as your fitted shirt, your horse's headstall and reins, and other personal items, will need to purchased by you. A comprehensive list of uniform items will be provided to you upon application.
